Merlin Bateman - Paris is a self taught contemporary artist who specialises in portraiture. Being heavily inspired by the renaissance period, Merlin works primarily in charcoal depicting his subjects with dramatic lighting. He works from. both, life and photo reference. Commissions require photo reference, however there are times when sketches are taken from life to start with.
